chro_welcome_1Chin Human Rights Organization is working to protect and promote the rights of the Chin people. Decades long violation of the rights of women and children, forced labour, political suppression, racial discrimination religious persecutions committed by the Burmese military regime results extreme poverty and thousands of Chin to flee from their home country in search of survival.

 

CHRO aims:

  • To promote Human Rights and democratic principles among Chin people.
  • To empower the people, especially the victims of human rights violations.
  • To provide accurate and reliable information about human rights situation in Chin state and Burma to the international community.

The Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO) was established in 1995, and registered as not for profit organization in Canada as it is impossible to legally register in Burma or its neighboring countries India or Bangladesh. With the supports of human rights defenders around the world, the Chin people, and the hard works of CHRO team, the organization has become a key human rights advocate internationally for the support of the Chins and other ethnic nationalities from Burma as well as those living as refugees in other countries.

Refugees

Thousands of Chin families, men, women and children have fled to India, Bangladesh Thailand and Malaysia and other countries to escape political suppression, forced labour, religious persecution and other forms of human rights violations. It is estimated that at least 60,000 Chin refugees are living in India while about 10,000 thousands more live in Malaysia. Several thousands sought refuge in other countries.

Forced labour reports

Each block of villages in Paletwa area, Southern Chin State, were forced to supply wood of 75 cubic feet per block. The defaulter Hemapi block had to pay the fine of Ks. 60000 to Major Zaw Tun, the battalion commander of Sinletwa. The Battalion, Light Infantry Battalion LIB 538, issued an order that each of the 18 blocks in the surrounding area must saw the wood and send to him.
